This is the subtitle that appears when launching Portal Reloaded, and it’s not for nothing: this fourth dimension, that of time, is the cause of all the complexity of the mod. If you’re new to the series, you might ditch this mod, frustrated with its difficulty. ![]() It basically aims to add a new layer of difficulty to the puzzle mechanics that already exist in Portal 2. The mod targets an audience of experienced players familiar with the mechanics of the Portal series. Moreover, its developer himself insists on it sure the official website of the game : It should therefore be understood that the term “fans”, used in the introduction of this article, was not chosen in an innocuous way: the new Portal 2 mod is intended above all for players who are already experienced in the saga and could well be able to quickly discourage the uninitiated. To cite a recent example and although the comparison may seem somewhat haphazard, Portal Reloaded is like a certain The Ancient Gods, Part I, first DLC of the very successful Doom Eternal: if one offers to go through test rooms made up of puzzles while the other makes us knock down demons by the hundreds, both use the mechanics of the base game, but have a much higher difficulty from the start. If we add to this a required storage space of no more than 7 GB and a required RAM of only 2 GB, it is easy to understand that just about anyone who has changed their computer at least one times in the past 10 years will be able to benefit from it. ![]() ![]() Because as long as you own the base game, since Monday, April 19 – 10 years to the day after the release of Portal 2 – you can launch for free in Portal Reloaded, a mod created by a single modder and giving access to no less than 25 new levels. To immerse yourself in the world of Portal, nothing could be simpler than this mod and above all, nothing less expensive. So this is where you can find our overall opinion on it. And finally, Valve, unironically hire this man.Since Portal Reloaded is a community-made, amateur mod and not an official game, we will not be posting an actual review of it. After finishing the game I had only two thoughts – firstly, Valve, make Portal 3. Portal Reloaded successfully captures the essence of the Portal series, easter eggs included. In conclusion the whole experience is designed in a Valve-esque manner and it honestly baffles me that we have gone ten years without a Portal 3, and this game only makes it all the more painful. Whether this is because I got used to the time mechanic is anyone’s guess, but even so, it’s a good sign the developer taught me (the player) well on how the third portal works. I found some of the earlier ones quite challenging, while the later ones were quite easy. Speaking of difficulty, I feel it has a satisfying balance of hard and easy test chambers. The final test chamber is easily the best one, and while I didn’t find it too difficult, (pretentious I know) I did find it very fun to figure out as it masterfully combines every element you’ve been learning throughout the entire game. Fortunately, towards the end of the game (particularly the last chamber), this isn’t the case. My one critique of the green portal is that a handful of the test chambers revolve around getting an extra cube from the future – with not much else in that time being used. It takes a few test chambers at the beginning to get used to how the new mechanics work, but after being eased in, you soon get used to how all the different moving parts work. ![]() This new portal allows the player to go between the present and the future. The time (square) portal is an excellent addition to the Portal formula and fits quite naturally with how test chambers are typically constructed. It is easily one of the best Portal mods in terms of design, detail, and care. After finishing it a few moments ago, I figured I’d make a small post with my thoughts on it.įirstly, the fact that this was created by one person is downright mindblowing. Included with the mod are 25 new test chambers which utilize this new mechanic in interesting ways. The mode introduces a third portal which allows the player to travel through the fourth dimension time. Portal: Reloaded is a recently released fan-made mod to Portal 2 – created by a sole developer, Portanis.
